Building Permits Jump 74 Percent in M.D.
Total building permits issued by the Municipal District No. 52 are showing a jump upwards of 74 percent in 2008 compared to 2007.

In 2007 building permits issued were worth $6,233,975 while the following year—from January 1, 2008 to December 16, 2008 the total was worth $10,821,396—which is an increase of $4,587,421.

Commercial building permits issued by the M.D. 52 are showing a jump upwards, however residential building is down, according to figures supplied by Provost Economic Development officer Bert Roach.

Commercial building permits in 2007 totalled $2,814,480 in value but in 2008 that shot up to a total of $8,941,896—or 218 percent increase.

Meanwhile residential building permits issued in 2008 compared to 2007 show an decrease of 52 percent.

The worth of total residential building permits issued in 2007 came to $3,419,495. That compares to $1,649,500 in the 11 and one half months of 2008.

Total institutional building permits issued during 2007 was zero but in 2008 the figure comes in at $230,000. Institutional permits include churches, hospitals and municipal projects.

In the December 10 2008 Provost News it was reported that Town of Provost experienced a jump in construction in 2008 as compared to 2007 with residential, commercial and institutional projects all making noticeable gains in the amount of money being spent.

Total building permits issued by the Town of Provost in 2008 was $7,613,585 while in 2007 the total building permits issued amounted to $2,131,300.

The percentage increase from 2007 to 2008 is approximately 57 percent.

In 2008 residential building permits issued totalled $2,244,385 (47 percent increase over 2007).

Total commercial building permits issued in 2008 accounted for $3,769,200 (698 percent increase over 2007).

Total institutional building permits (which includes churches, hospitals and municipal projects issued for this year totalled $1,600,000 (1,128 percent increase over 2007).

In 2007 permits for construction in town issued were: residential, $1,529,000; commercial, $472,000; and institutional, $130,300.

Natural Gas Rebate for Albertans
Albertans will save approximately $35 on their January gas bill, through the Natural Gas Rebate program.

Rebates are triggered when two of the three regulated natural gas companies charge regulated rates above $5.50/GJ. Most residential consumers will have the rebate applied directly to their monthly gas bill. Large scale commercial or industrial consumers, select agricultural producers, and those who heat their homes with other fuels need to apply for rebates.
