Families Offered $12,000 With Prayers and Thoughts of Goodwill
Two local families who have members fighting cancer have been offered good wishes, prayers and $12,000 thanks to fund raising hockey games in town recently.

The Brad Pylypow and Kyle Pilgaard families received on Saturday night the offers of help from the community at the final game of a series of fund raising hockey games at the Provost arena.

Players from the Winterhawk recreation hockey team, spearheaded by Les Watchel, Fred Nelson and Bill Pickard organized the event in five days.

There were 10 teams involved representing 134 skaters. Names were picked at random to create new recreation teams. Each player paid $50 to play while more donations came in from others including local companies. Minor hockey, senior hockey and recreation hockey teams donated ice time as did referees donate their services.

As well at the games extra money was raised when each player could pay $5 for a fun shootout event between periods.
A top goalie presentation went to goalie Shaun Pilgaard who received NHL Oiler tickets. Shootout winners were Terry Klein and Brett McInnis.

The event began on Sunday, March 11 when three games were held, followed by two games each night after that with the final two games Saturday evening, March 17. There were 15 games played.
