April 25, 2007
Square dance caller Glen Sodergren of Boyle, Alta. directs traffic in Edgerton when 160 people showed up on Saturday to take in a zone dance. The men and women, coming from communities in Saskatchewan like Unity and elsewhere—and as far west as Bon Accord and Edmonton burned off the calories as they were hosted by the local Merry Mixers club in the Edgerton Agricultural Hall. And by the looks of the collection of records and playing equipment (bottom, right) —45’s still rule. ©Provost News Photo.

More Progress For Museum Building
Construction of the new Provost and District Museum should be completed soon, says president Bob Paulgaard.

The plumbing and electrical work is roughed in and more people are stopping in to take a peek at the progress of the 4,000 square foot main concrete floor building that includes a reception area and small kitchen as well as a second floor of about 2,000 square feet. “Hopefully the public will embrace it.”

Paulgaard says that the Bodo Archaeological Society will have room for some of their exhibits and outside a picnic area may be developed. Already in place outside is a storage shed nearby.

A grand opening will be planned for this summer that includes celebrating being debt-free thanks to volunteer work and fundraising and matching government grants.

Many people working at the site have donated some of their labour or other costs back, points out Paulgaard.

The start of construction began just over one year ago.

Plans for the second level have not been firmed up but one suggestion is possibly a photo gallery and other exhibits that tell the story of Provost and area.

The museum president suggests that tour buses going through the community with older people might find it interesting to stop here and go through the building when it is complete. In the immediate future staffing will have to be manned by volunteers.
