Raising Cash for a Helpful Cause
 |
Casey Lawes with microphone in hand brings a live auction into action at the 13th annual Provost fireman’s ball on Saturday, February 22 at the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre. Money raised is to go towards the Provost Victims Assistance Fund which provides financial aid to local residents affected by unforseen circumstances such as accidents, illness or other unfortunate events. The sold out event brought 400 people into the room. Fire chief Barry Johnstone told The News that “It was a wonderful night. Things went absolutely awesome.” Since the event first began, he says, up to 175 families have been helped. Last year’s event raised over $115,000 bringing total fundraising to-date to over $830,000 — not including this year’s fundraiser. According to the Provost Fire Department, every dollar raised goes directly to help those in need, while ensuring that the assistance remains within the community. A supper and silent auction were also held. More photos in The Provost News dated February 25, 2025. ©Provost News Photo. |
