Unusual, But Culverts Are Doing “Exactly” What
They’re Supposed To, Says Public Works
 |
An unusually high amount of water runoff has arrived in the new dog park that was built last year. Public Works superintendent Keith Heintz told The News that the water is coming from out in the country north of town. It flows into a culvert under Highway 13 near Subway; and goes south along what turns into a mini-creek leading to this park shown above. However, it keeps going under 53 Ave. through another culvert just south of the Provost & District Fire Hall (pictured at back) which leads into their storm retention pond. “Eventually it goes to Fleeing Horse Lake,” says Heintz. “This (situation) is a little unusual” since it got warm out so fast. The culverts are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do, he adds. “Unless something gets plugged — which we’re watching for,” adding that this may take three or four days to clear.
