Blizzard of Birds

Snow geese fill a large portion of the sky as only one of the massive flocks found on the water at Fleeinghorse Lake near Provost lift off amid loud honking. These birds are among several millions of others originating from Canada’s and Alaska’s Arctic tundra on their epic journey heading for a warmer climate to survive the winter. The longest flight feathers of the wings, called primaries are black, which are more evident while the wild animals are flying. Like standing inside a snow globe, a scene like this could also have been found in parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan this fall as several hundreds of thousands of this variety of geese as well rest on lakes or search nearby for marshland plant food including berries and waste grain on fields. ©Provost News Photo.
