Taking Cover

While the sun is setting this lone purple and yellow wildflower senses that the air temperature is cooling off quickly and furry petals react like miniature blankets to close and protect more delicate parts. Commonly called a prairie crocus, the little perennial is not really a crocus which is among the lily family but is actually an anemone, which belongs to the buttercup family. During the day such colourful plants are open and might be spotted in some pastures, particularly where the ground remains unbroken. ©Provost News Photo.
