Combine operator Lynn Paulgaard (bottom) has the control stick in her hand, filling a nearby truck with peas during harvest 20 kilometres south of Provost and just east of Highway 899 on Thursday evening, September 4. Picture top shows some of the pea crop (dessicated to speed ripening) in the field. Three more combines that evening were being operated nearby with Jason Paulgaard, Brent Murray and Jody Evans Paulgaard at the controls. Chase Evans along with Alexa Evans are also helping during harvest while Dan Paulgaard was busy with a truck and grain auger. Combines were rolling until 9 p.m. on Sunday night when rain started to fall, becoming widespread across the province on Monday with some western areas reporting snow. Lynn, who had her mother in the cab on Sunday evening noted that the view was “unbelievable” with coolies nearby. She added that they were very happy with the yield. The peas will be sent by Richardson Pioneer via rail to Vancouver where the majority of them will be shipped to India. With 50 percent of the Paulgaard pea crop harvest complete, other crops to take off will be canola, barley, wheat and oats. ©Provost News Photos.
