Testing a portion of Enbridge Pipeline’s Terrace Phase II expansion project was underway a couple of miles south of Provost when this picture was taken. The tons of water from the Battle River was trucked to Metiskow and pumped into the new line. This “blow down” pressure test took approximately eight hours to complete on a 22 km. length of pipe. The company building the pipeline, Robert B. Somerville (a division of Robert McAlpine Ltd.) has the end of the project in sight. After this testing a “smart pig” equipped with electronics will travel inside the pipe and take readings. To the left of the building is Leanne Thomson, field engineer for Enbridge talking with testing inspector Don Bird also of Enbridge, along with Doug Crowe, test foreman for Robert B. Somerville. This arc of water led to all seven spectral colors appearing in the sky as a result of the refractive dispersion of sunlight in the millions of drops of mist. ©Provost News Photo.

Provost Men Receive Melvin Jones Lions Awards
Ben Miller and Jim Miller were presented with Melvin Jones Fellowship awards—the highest form of recognition conferred by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) on Sunday afternoon September 30 at the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre.

President of the local Lions Club, Bob Martin said “These awards are voted on by fellow Lion members and are in recognition of many, many volunteer hours representing Lionism in Provost and district. The Lion members are very proud of these two gentlemen.”

It was noted that it is largely due to the growth of the fellowship program that LCIF can meet humanitarian needs such as disadvantaged children or the elderly whose community has been unable to care for them, in communities worldwide. LCIF continually meets such needs through the generosity of Lions and others who contribute to the Melvin Jones Fellowship program. They also received lapel pins from Lions International for humanitarian service.
