Provost Bantams Hockey Club
Wins Provincial Gold on Weekend
The Provost Pahl’s Maintenance Bantam Hockey club captured the Alberta title in C Provincial Hockey this past weekend, March 16-18 in Hardisty.

The boys played their first game Friday, March 16 and came away with a victory of 6-1 over Bow Island.

The next morning, March 17, Provost faced a very strong Smokey River team, losing to them 12-4. That evening Provost bounced back with a convincing win over Bieseker 7-2. That last win placed Provost in second place in pool B and into the semi finals.

On Sunday, March 18, Provost was up against Lac La Biche who finished first in pool A. A very exciting game ended with a tie in regulation time—but within a couple of minutes into overtime Provost came away with a 3-2 victory on a breakaway goal. That put Provost in the finals against Smokey River who had placed first in pool B and won out over Calahoo in the semi finals.

The final gold medal game was played at 5 p.m. and after a very exciting game and with strong goaltending Provost came out on top with a 3-2 score. One parent reported that it was “A well deserved win for these boys and their coaches and a super weekend of hockey action for everyone” and added that there was solid defensive play.

Bantam hockey coaches are Trent Taylor, Fred Nelson and Jim Kraft.
