Moving History

Taking up the width of Range Road 22, Rosenheim School leaves behind a rocky foundation where students attended decades ago. Here, the estimated 10 ton structure built in 1908 by Felix C. Schneider on part of his homestead, is hauled by McConnell Building Movers of Millet, Alta. Measuring 20 x 30 feet, the three mile move began at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16 and was carefully placed onto its new foundation at the Rosenheim grounds soon after 11:20 a.m. Considered a child prodigy, one of the students Pete Friesen went on to invent and patent the unified hydraulic jacking system which is used around the world by building movers today — including for this project. Jason McConnell, owner of McConnell Building Movers, told The News that “I thought it was pretty neat” when finding out they’d get to deliver the school Friesen attended.
