Looking for the Highest Bidder

Casey Lawes gestures bringing a live auction into action at the 12th annual Provost fireman’s ball on Saturday night, February 24 at the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre. The event sold out, bringing 400 people into the room. Provost fire chief Barry Johnstone told The News it went “absolutely excellent . . . I don’t think this is being done anywhere else in Canada, something like this. I honestly think this is the best place in Canada to live. You, know, it’s unbelievable.” Dollar figures were in process of being tallied up which is to go towards the Provost Victims Assistance Fund. Johnstone told the crowd that night that the current members of the Provost Fire Department have put in a combined total of roughly 500 years volunteering on the department; and 80 percent of Alberta’s firefighters are volunteers.
