—Efforts Can Be Seen, Say National Communities in Bloom Judges
National Communities in Bloom judges Tina Liu who is the senior landscape architect at the National Capital Commission in Ottawa (far left); and Susan Ellis (second from left), National Chair for Communities in Bloom take in a tour of part of Provost’s recreation facilities by Jack McKinlay, rec director (far right); along with Dawson Potts for the Town of Provost at back. Ellis told The News that “First impressions are lasting impressions . . . it’s a town that’s working really well together . . . They’re well prepared and are making and doing the best with what they have.” Liu says it’s a “very impressive” community and the efforts can be seen. She adds that this is the first time for Provost to be invited into the national contest. What’s next in the process for judging the area, is a report for the two judges to complete that will take about 75 hours to cover six criteria in 82 elements. Areas toured on Monday, July 31 include the fire hall, butterfly garden in Participark, the Provost landfill; Provost Cemetery, Provost & District Museum and some of the resident gardens.
