Teachers and Staff Parade Sends
Messages to Students
|
School students and community members were greeted during a parade in Provost with well-wishes and messages of encouragement from Provost Public School and St. Thomas Aquinas School teachers and teachers’ assistants on Thursday, April 30. PPS principal Jody Cook told The News that the parade was “so much fun” with over 50 staff members from both schools participating by driving their own vehicles or riding bikes. She says it was great to see so many students and other community members to come out to watch and wave. “Our staff experienced a rollercoaster of emotions on the day of the parade. It was very exciting to see the students—their waves, their smiles and many of them even made signs. It was such a heart-warming experience. For a moment, it was also sad. We have been missing the students so much. It was also the last working day for this school year for our educational assistants and learning commons facilitator. The parade was a fun way to celebrate that last day . . . They play an important role in the education of our students.” She adds that she’s “very proud” of staff, students and parents to navigate a new way of learning in such a short period of time and looks forward to having students back at school when it is safe for classes to resume. Asked what he thought of the parade, STA School principal Les Ellchuk said “It was fantastic” and “exciting to see the community in support for both of our schools, from seeing the young students to seeing up to our senior citizens. I think it was great having the involvement of the RCMP detachment and the fire department. It was a team effort—I’m proud to be a part of that.” The parade marked the last day of work for teachers’ assistants for STA as well. Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced the immediate and indefinite closure of all Alberta K-12 schools on March 15. Students are learning by distance education. ©Provost News Photo.
