Silent Church
|
St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Provost is pictured with no one in sight during what was to be a scheduled mass service soon after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 22. Their services have been suspended indefinitely; while some other churches in the area have also paused their public services in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 which is spreading across Canada and the rest of the world. Signs on other doors in town (see PN March 25) showed that their services were suspended, including at the Central Lutheran Church and Provost Community Church. New Hope Gospel Church told The News that so far they are still hosting a modified form of services and are encouraging people who are “at risk” to stay home. Pastor Doug Engel adds that a lesson in junior church was taught recently on proper hygiene to “give us clean hands,” in light of the outbreak. According to the Government of Alberta, church so far may be kept ongoing as long as the group doesn’t surpass 50 people as one of the rules to help contain the spread of the virus. ©Provost News Photos.
