Teacher Wraps Up Career
in Unexpected Way
|
St. Thomas Aquinas School Grade 2 teacher Kerry Drader organizes books at her desk in the classroom—without her students in person on the last day of instruction, Friday, June 19. Drader told The News the situation is “kind of sad” with this being her last of a 31 year career—she “can’t enjoy” her students’ presence. Pointing to construction activity of the new replacement school (see PN May 20) outside her classroom window, she says she started teaching in this school building in 1989 and wants to “walk out of it” for her career—although she adds she does want to see the new facility. Drader says retiring feels good, but considering what’s happening in education there’s “uncertainty” in the fall due to the pandemic, so is relieved to be retiring. She thinks that in the new semester there will be a different way to teach, however young teachers are “very comfortable with technology.” Drader plans to stay in Provost, volunteer at school, take in church activities and embark on new hobbies and interests. She hopes the students can be back at school in September. According to the school calendar, final report cards are out on June 26. ©Provost News Photo.
