Poplar Trees Dying
—‘Something in Soil Killing Them’

Dead poplar trees are being cut down west of the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre. This photo taken May 24 shows some town crew doing the work. Town foreman Keith Heintz told The News that there “is something in the soil killing them.” Ten or 11 are to be removed. Heintz says he wants to see a proper replacement program for the trees that will be eight or 10 feet tall sometime this summer. A soil sample was sent away for analysis and the town is now looking into what types of trees could grow in these conditions. ©Provost News Photo.
