Rebuilding M.D. Roads
|
Heavy equipment works about a kilometre north of Hayter on Range Road 15. Administrator for the M.D. of Provost No. 52 Tyler Lawrason told The News on May 9 that this road project is part of the M.D.’s gravel road rebuild program which occurs yearly and is planned on a five year basis. It is the “major focus of the M.D.’s capital budget and we have rebuilt over 200 miles of our arterial road network in the past 10 years,” says Lawrason. The work constitutes a full removal and rebuild of the road’s base course. He says the purpose is to upgrade the road to a higher standard of design and construction that includes better accommodation of “commercial traffic and eliminates issues such as soft spots, improper sloping, poor drainage, poor subgrade material . . . The plan is not to pave the road at present.” The work off right-of-way is soil borrowing—which is new material for the new road base, he adds. The cost of this work which is being done by Hauser Construction ranges from $250,000-300,000 per mile. ©Provost News Photo.
