Men’s Baseball Team Advance to Western Canadian Finals
. . . After First Place Alberta Win
A Provost men’s baseball team won first place in provincial championships and will advance to Western Canadian finals in British Columbia the end of this month.
The Provost Combine Pilots competed in the Senior Men’s AA provincial finals in Rycroft, Alberta on July 29 to August 1.
Provost played the first game of the tournament defeating Heisler 9-0 on Friday.
Saturday morning the Provost Combine Pilots faced Oyen defeating them 16-10, which advanced them to the semi-final game on Sunday. Provost defeated the favored Peace River team 4-3 in a barn burner of a close game.
On Monday Provost focused for the final game against Lacombe and defeated them 3-0.
The Combine Pilots will advance to Western Canadian Championships in Trail, B.C. from August 25 to 28 where they will represent Alberta.
In other baseball games at the Senior Men’s AA provincial finals Rycroft lost their first game 6 - 4 against Oyen. Peace River won their first game 11 - 4 against Lacombe and then Rycroft was knocked out by losing 6 - 4 to Heisler. Peace River lost 5 - 2 to Lacombe.

Provost this season so far has 19 wins and three losses which includes the provincial round.
A team spokesman told The Provost News that six of the men on the winning Provost Combine Pilots provincial baseball team also played for the Provost Blades hockey club that won first place in Alberta this winter (see PN April 6, 2011). Playing with the Blades during the AA Alberta Senior hockey championships hosted in town were baseball players Brett McInnis, Chad Nelson, Mark Nelson, Brett Chapman, Ryan Olson, and Trevor Chopek.
