Open House Planned for Wind Energy Project
Plans for a project to build wind turbines 12 miles northeast of Provost will be made available for public viewing at an open house here on July 20.

Windlab Developments Canada Ltd. (Windlab) is pursuing the development of their proposed wind energy facility named the Bull Creek Wind Project, (approximately 20 km northeast of Provost and 15 km south of Chauvin).

Staff from Windlab will be at the Tuesday public meeting to look for input from local people and to answer questions.

Windlab is a global wind energy development company established in 2003. It has projects in Canada, U.S.A., South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Two 260 foot tall (80 metres) monitoring towers were put up by the firm last fall (see PN Nov. 25, 2009). They were equipped with sensing equipment to measure the volume, strength and flow of wind in that area. Data collected has been transmitted to a remote location for analyasis.

Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) representative Doug Downs of Calgary told The Provost News in an interview on October 8 (see PN Oct. 14, 2009) in town that “there is a need to inter-connect an expected 350 megawatts of wind power development— originating in the Provost area—to meet the increased expected power demand from planned oil and gas pipeline” activity over the next 10 years. He said at the time that an estimated 125 to 150 wind turbines are being planned to be built in the Provost area to help meet an expected growing demand for energy.
