Construction of 10,500 Sq. Ft.
Shop at Hughenden Gets OK
• Extra 3,000 Square Feet Will be Provided
A new M.D. 52 shop at Hughenden costing $1,852,000 to replace the one that burned on June 14 will begin to go up this fall.

The single tender from Seko Construction of Edmonton was opened early Thursday morning, August 30 at the M.D. administration office in Provost.

The building will be 10,500 square feet. The old one was approximately 7,500 square feet.

A site meeting for the 60 by 175 foot building was scheduled for Tuesday, September 4.

The M.D. is hoping construction begins in September though this is not certain, and says M.D. 52 administrator Iris Larson it will take about a year to complete.

Insurance will cover approximately half the cost of the new building and the MD will apply for some provincial funding.

Serving on a building committee to oversee the project will be MD councillors Jack Roworth and Tom Schneider along with director of public works Curtis Hughes and public works foreman Irvin Bethge including Larson.

Larson added that in reference to the larger building that they could have left it the same size but “we are trying to build for the future.”
