Seniors Condo Project Moving Forward;
but Hillcrest Plans to be Scaled Back
A developer who is proposing a 24 unit condominium designed for senior citizens is now about “90 percent” sure of the project going ahead.
However plans for a large Hillcrest Lodge expansion appear to be in the process of being scaled back to adding approximately 10 units.
Mayor Ken Knox, who also serves on the Provost Senior Citizens Home Foundation called Sherwood Park businessman John Vrolijk on Tuesday, March 14 with a selling price of approximately $85,000 for about one acre of land situated near Hillcrest Lodge.
Vrolijk says he is happy with the price and will now proceed with more drawings “post haste.” He hopes to begin building sometime this year with a completion in mid-2007.
He will need two or three months to get things in place followed by nine to 10 months of construction of the $3.5 million condominium. The completion date is also dependent upon sub-trades and a sub-contactor.
The developer is aiming to build 24 units but that is dependent on marketing information that he is still seeking. “I have been in constant contact with (town councillor) Peggy McFadyen who has been a great help to help solidify an exact size.”
