The church, 30 kilometres southeast of Provost has not been used for several years and will be moved to the new museum grounds in town. The cornerstone for this building was laid in July 1930 by pioneers Pastor O. E. Bus Driver Acts for More Safety by Schools
As students went back to classes on Monday morning, January 9 they along with motorists saw new safety devices out on the roads urging drivers to slow down in the school zones.
School bus driver Dawn Read is usually parked first in line to pick up students at Provost Public Schoolso gets a good view of traffic including pedestrians and says there have been many close calls.
She, along with her husband Myron cut out the silhouetted pedestrian figures and painted them, had RTM Welding create a metal frame with rollers and then sold sponsor space on the units to help defray costs.
One of the safety devices will sit in the middle of the road on the north side while another will be placed on the south side of PPS. Meanwhile another unit that reads “Slow 30 KM/HR” will be set up on the road near St. Thomas Aquinas School.
They are designed to act as a reminder “and to keep our children safe” says Dawn Read.
It will be up to staff at the two schools to wheel the units out each morning on school days when busses and other traffic are active and at the end of the school day.
The bus driver says staff was “more than happy” to participate in the project that will be tried until the end of school this year. At that time the project will be evaluated and it’s possible that more safety devices will be put out in September.
