Santa Visits; Chamber Plans Sleigh Rides, More Free
Shows During Christmas Memories Event
The Provost and District Chamber of Commerce is continuing its special Christmas Memories family program in town this year until December 24.
On Saturday afternoon, December 4 Santa arrived from the North Pole with his helpers in the afternoon and handed out treats to about 125 youngsters while parents watched and took pictures.
Free horse-pulled sleigh rides for the youngsters will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 11 and take off from Central Park (weather permitting). In addition outdoor skating will be offered at the new rink in the fairgrounds with hot chocolate and marshmallows cooked over a campfire (again, weather permitting).
Free shows were featured for the youngsters on Saturday, December 4, (two shows) and more shows will be offered December 11 and 18 at the movie theatre in town.
The chamber will be holding a decorating contest for both residential and commercial, with prizes to be awarded.
All Fridays in December, leading up to Christmas, some stores will be open late in the evening (except Christmas Eve).
The Chamber of Commerce is also holding three draws on different dates giving shoppers a chance to win up to a total of $600 in vouchers.
The annual Christmas Carol Festival scheduled for Wednesday evening, December 8 (tonight) has been cancelled because of not enough interest, say organizers.
