MLA Butch Fischer was in Provost on Friday, February 9 to deliver a $50,000 cheque from the provincial government to the Provost and District Health Services Foundation. Funds were from the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) lottery funding which partnerships with communities to enhance facilities through expansion and upgrading. The Foundation had originally applied for grants through CFEP and the Wild Rose Foundation to help with the Building on Success expansion of the medical centre but both applications were refused. An appeal was not successful but Dale Gregory continued to lobby the government for financial help. |

Fischer hoped to get some funding for Provost through health but this did not happen and he felt fortunate to get funds through CFEP. He said Im very pleased we got it. Provost deserves this money for expansion because this community has done so much to provide local health services. This will be invaluable to residents of this area for many years. In the fall of 1999 the Foundation added eight examining rooms, a lounge/lab and a bathroom to the existing medical centre to accommodate four physicians. At this time a mortgage for $165,000 was arranged. The addition and renovations were completed in January of 2000. The Chamber of Commerce sponsored a fundraising gala which |

raised approximately $25,000 for the project. The Foundation undertook a letter writing campaign targeting the oilpatch and other people also generously donated. The mortgage was reduced by $49,000 from these combined efforts. With regular monthly payments made over the past year the mortgage on January 20, 2001 was $96,820.58. The CFEP cheque will reduce it to $46,820.58, a viable amount for the Foundation to handle. Provost and District Health Services Foundation is a non-profit society with charitable status and can issue tax deductible receipts for any donations received. Want to Subscribe to The Provost News?
