Community areas facility co-ordinator spokesman for the park, Myron Yachimec of Red Deer says that the closing of the playground equipment is a bit of a liability issue. Guidelines have changed since equipment was put in years ago and some of the equipment does not conform to standards anymore, adds Yachimec. He said that the equipment could be upgraded, replaced or removed depending on cost and how much the playgrounds are used. He added that they hope to have some equipment in operation near the main beach this summer. Many years ago amid fanfare and the spending of several millions of dollars the park was expanded for usersbut now sections of camping units are closed and parts of the main beach are infested with ants.
