Provost Pee Wees
Wins Final Game
of Year 9-6
A nice way to end off the year with a hockey win in Irma last Saturday.
McMann showed us that he hadn’t run out of gas after a three goal performance, all coming in a three minute span.
And Landmark displayed his huge shot one last time as he scored two goals on slapshots from the blueline.
McMann’s last goal of the season (also the team’s last goal of the season) was scored on a penalty shot early in the third.
Speaking of penalty shots, there was one last weekend that I forgot to tell about, and it was against us. Eatonia was shooting on Stahl.
The refs didn’t even wait for Stahl to get set, but Stahl came up big saving his first penalty shot ever, in a tight game, when we needed it most.
Anyway, back to the game in Irma. It was a rough game throughout, especially Landmark, Adams and Ganser.
Now, you’re probably thinking why I put Ganser in there. Well, you all know that Ganser is one of the shortest, if not the shortest, in the league. So he uses his size to an advantage.
Ganser went low on the biggest player in the game and made him pay for all the other times.
Ganser didn’t understand why we couldn’t get him down if he could.
But Landmark and Adams did their jobs by crunching some Irma players at center ice.
If you looked at the scoresheet, you would see 31 penalties, but you would see Landmark only once (which was at the beginning of the game), until the last minute of the game.
At one point in the game we only had three players resting on the bench.
Even though Irma had six more players than us, we still managed to beat them by a score of 9-6.
After Stempfle, Angeltvedt, and Landmark scored in the first it was all tied up at three.
We had the man advantage going into the second after a hooking call. But we couldn’t get anything going on it. Nobody scored until there was six and a half minutes gone in the second, when Stempfle scored his second of the game from in close.
Ringrose scored with a perfect wristshot over the goalie’s shoulder and into the top part of the net.
Stahl played a pretty solid game for us in net saving at least 25 shots.
But the play was mostly in their zone. We were doing pretty well with our passes. I think if they would have stayed out of the penalty box, it would have been a closer game because we scored five goals on the power play. That’s about one goal every three penalties.
They only managed one goal on the power play, so we played our defense pretty well.
We started off our season in winning fashion, and ended it in winning fashion.
Provost scoring:
First Period- Landmark (McMann); Angeltvedt (Ganser, Adams); Stempfle (unassisted).
Second Period- Stempfle (Klein); Ringrose (Stempfle); Landmark (Adams, Klein); McMann (Ringrose, Stempfle).
Third Period- McMann (Stempfle, Ganser); McMann (penalty shot).
Final score was 9-6 for the Provost Pee Wees.
Please watch next week for a wrap up column for the season.
