Back to Provost for the second game of the zone series and we were up by two goals.
I managed to shove my hand into my glove and play and escaped hurting my hand further.
We played an excellent first period. The puck was only in our end for a couple minutes at the most. But amazingly we were able to score only one goal because of a great Camrose goalie who faced 23 shots in the first.
We had called Bishop, Heck, Angeltvedt, and goalie Wetzstein again to give us a hand.
Stahl was in net for the first period facing only three shots.
Our line that we brought up scored first.
The puck was slid down the ice and Bishop checked the Camrose defenseman and took the puck. After a few hits at it Bishop was able to put in. 1-0 Provost.
We had our share of chances that’s for sure. Heck almost got a goal off a couple two-on-one passes.
In the second we put Wetzstein in net and he had to put up with just one more shot than Stahl, but one of those shots found its way to the back of the net. Not his fault though.
Then Stempfle went down on a breakaway and hit the post, but Benoit came and hit the puck across the line.
Minutes later Carroll took the puck down to the Camrose end on a rush. He didn’t score but we ended up with the puck, Angeltvedt had it in the corner. Moncrieff, our other defenseman was deep in their zone as well, took the pass from Angeltvedt and shot it into the far side on a quick snap shot. 3-1 after two periods. All we have to do and we’re off to provincials.
So far our penalty minutes were at a low ten, that’s including a coincidental call.
Shots against in the second were 16-4 in our favor.
Not letting up we scored again three minutes in, this time Angeltvedt.
With only about eight minutes remaining Wetz was down on the ice after making the first save but the Camrose player was able to lift the puck up over him into the top corner. 4-2 Provost.
The play was almost entirely ours and that was good, but we just couldn’t score, that was frustrating, but as long as we had the lead it was okay.
Glencross scored once more for us with just over a minute remaining. Then it was done with. We were taking Deck’s truck to Redwater for the Provincial B finals.
For many us our first Provincials, some our second and maybe even third.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period- Bishop (unassisted).
Second Period- Benoit (Stempfle); Moncrieff (Bishop).
Third Period- Angeltvedt (Sorby); Glencross (Benoit).
Final score in series was 12-7.
Most had a late night Saturday but came to play the next day in Lougheed against Hardisty. I wasn’t there but we ended up losing 3-2 .
Provost scoreboard:
First Period- Ganser (unassisted).
Second Period- No scoring.
Third Period- Benoit (Glencross, Stempfle).
