Three more games to report on in the last week, and the closest game was five goals apart, all wins.
The first was against Kitscoty played on Thursday night in their arena. This is a team which we have played before, and each of us have won a game out of the two played. This was the tie-breaker played in Kitscoty.
At the beginning it looked like we were going to have a tough time, but we did not. We scored the goals in the first period while goalie Brian Stahl held them pointless. It was five to nothing for the Provost Pee Wees at the end of period number one.
We wanted to run the score up and right off the face-off in the second period Ringrose gave it to Holmes inside the blueline and he one-timed it between the legs of the Kitscoty goalie. We thought that this would be a very good period but we only scored two more goals.
Another goal in the second came from a second effort from Stempfle who passed it out from his knees in the corner to Holmes who passed to Angeltvedt out front for the tip-in.
The second period was not what we wanted but Stahl sure liked it, just one more period and Stahl would have his second shutout of the year.
But that all came to an end when a shot from the point slipped by him with under four minutes left.
But soon the game was over and we had won by a fair margin, 10-1.
McMann had three goals and two assists. Holmes had three goals and three assists, Ringrose had a pair of goals and a pair of assists while Stempfle had straight “A’s”, collecting four assists.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Holmes (McMann, Stempfle); McMann (unassisted); Ringrose (Stempfle, Holmes); McMann (unassisted); Ringrose (Holmes).
Second Period-
Holmes (Ringrose); Holmes (Stempfle, Ringrose); Angeltvedt (Holmes, Stempfle).
Third Period-
Klein (McMann, Ganser); McMann (unassisted).
Another league game played in Provost on Saturday for three points against Lloyd Imperial 400. A few weeks ago we beat the same team 6-3. But this time we stole a goal from them to end it at 7-2 for the Provost Pee Wees.
Ganser put one away mid-way through the first. But they came back and tied it with just over one minute left in the period.
Near the beginning of the second we found ourselves shorthanded after seconds a Lloyd goal. However, Lloyd did not gain anything. But you can’t say the same for us.
Thirty seconds later in our end Rehman passed it up to Holmes who went wide around the defense and then slid the puck in the short side.
Later on the same penalty, Adams took a shot from the blue line, it looked like the goalie had it, but when we didn’t hear the whistle blow, we needed another look. And there it was, sitting in the crease behind the goalie just waiting to be put over that red line. So Holmes put it in.
Two shorthanded goals on the same penalty by Provost. That goal turned out to be the winner.
Ganser made a fast rush to the end to pass it over to McMann who tipped it in for an insurance goal.
We added four more to make it look good, but that was all. Final score 7-2 for the Provost Pee Wees.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Ganser (McMann, Rehman).
Second Period-
Holmes (Rehman) (shorthanded); Holmes (Adams) (shorthanded); McMann (Ganser); Adams (Stempfle).
Angeltvedt (McMann, Adams); Ringrose (unassisted).
Our first Zone game was held in Provost Sunday against Castor. It looked like a tough game was ahead when we couldn’t get the puck out of our zone. But they soon got tired and we scored the first goal. Stempfle scored it on a pass from Holmes behind the net. Then Angeltvedt put one in a minute later.
We hit a couple posts, and some close shots but we didn’t find the net until there was six minutes left in the first when Klein collected a rebound and shot it in the half open net.
It seemed like the other team’s coach had given them a very good pep talk, because they came out and scored their first goal less than a minute in.
But we got that one back minutes later from McMann.
Klein put another late goal in with 16 seconds left in the second which improved the score to a 7-2 lead for Provost.
“I can’t even remember if I got hit or not” Cam Stempfle said after he slid into the boards during the second period. Stempfle tripped, from what Jim Ganser (coach) saw, and slid into the boards head first. He sat out for about five minutes and was back in the game hitting. We’re glad he’s okay.
In the third we watched Castor get one more goal and then we scored some more.
Landmark teed one up from the point and Ganser with a beautiful tip, put it top corner with just under a minute left in the game.
But Stempfle managed to feed one over to Holmes and send him in on a breakaway. Holmes went to one side while tapping the puck in the other corner of the net with six seconds left.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Stempfle (Holmes, Angeltvedt); Angeltvedt (Stempfle, Watchal); Klein (Ganser, McMann); McMann (unassisted).
Second Period-
McMann (Watchal); McMann (Klein, Ganser); Ringrose (Stempfle, Watchal).
Third Period-
Ringrose (Holmes); Ganser (Landmark, McMann); Holmes (Stempfle, Angeltvedt).
Another Zone game against Castor will be played this Friday in Castor, and then another league game against Paradise Valley in Provost on Sunday.
