View From The Ice

Saturday, January 10.
We began the weekend with a great game I thought against Irma.
I honestly can’t remember much of the game, but you can easily tell by looking at the score sheet, shots were 52 to 19.
Stahl made some great saves early in the game to give our skaters something else to worry about out on the ice, and there was no shortage of scoring, as you can see we scored 13 goals, six of them coming in the third period.
Glencross and Benoit combined for 13 points alone.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period- Glencross (Benoit, Sorby); Benoit (Glencross, Stempfle); Holmes (Ganser).
Second Period- Ganser (Sorby, Paulgaard); Benoit (Glencross); Stempfle (Moncrieff, Glencross); Benoit (Moncrieff).
Third Period- Benoit (Glencross, Stempfle); Glencross (Adams); Carroll (Stempfle); Sorby (Ganser); Benoit (unassisted); Ganser (Glencross, Moncrieff).
We played very well again this game, but just not long enough.
Macklin was the first to strike just five minutes in. But Glencross responded, scoring twice in just an eighteen second span. Holmes later scored to make it a three to one game.
But Macklin scored two quick goals of their own, twelve seconds to be exact. Then they scored once more before the period was over to take the lead.
Glencross finished his hat trick only thirty seconds into the second period.
Ganser then had to tie us up when the period was almost half over.
Benoit scored one off the butt-end of the goalie’s stick, the puck was going over but just got enough of the tape to sneak in.
Despite scoring three goals we were still behind by one goal after two periods of play.
We finally went and stayed ahead for a while in the third period when Adams blasted a nice low one in the corner. It was 10-8 with just a few minutes remaining.
Holmes took the puck across the line and wired it top corner, the play was later called on the off-side after the Macklin team said something. I was certain we were onside, Paulgaard was beside me and Ganser was still feet from the line. This was our third disallowed goal of the game.
Macklin got within one goal then we got a penalty with 45 seconds left.
One Macklin player crept out from the corner and scored with 1:9 second remaining on the clock.
We really should’ve been glad with the point since we came back in the third period but we felt terrible. Hopefully that will all change this next weekend in Consort.
