Another two games and each of them counted for something. But we only managed the one win.
Our first was in Chauvin against Chauvin/Edgerton. It looked like it was going to be a good game for us, but it turned out to be one of our worst.
Stahl wasn’t looking that bad, none of the goals were really his fault, but Chauvin/Edgerton put one in on a slapshot from the blueline midway through the first period. They put another up on the board with three minutes left in the period.
We went into the dressing rooms down two goals to none. We didn’t know what was wrong with us.
We hardly solved anything in the second. All we did was give up three more goals. But Adams squeezed one through the goalie's legs to eliminate the shutout with a shot from the top of the circle.
By the end of the second it was five to one for Chauvin/Edgerton.
This game was not a pretty site. The 8-2 loss against Kerrobert showed more heart than this game.
By the end of the game it was seven to one. Out of the 60 minutes, we had the pressure on for about 10 minutes. Maybe less. But we were disgusted at how we played. And this was a league game too.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Adams (Stempfle).
Second- No scoring.
Third- No scoring.
But as we all know this isn’t the end of the world. Still many games left to be played, including another Zone game in Tofield the next Saturday.
Tofield was the next team we were scheduled to play. Tofield played Sedgewick in their first round and Sedgewick lost the series by two goals.
So, we knew that this would be no walk in the park even though we had beat Sedgewick by a score of 8-3 before.
Early in the game we found out that this goalie was part of the reason why they were in the second round. He shut us out for the first period while the forwards scored to put them ahead one to nothing.
But there was the face-off down in our zone when Stahl found Holmes to his left.
“Hey, Holmsee. Remember that little chat we had?”
Well, you know the rest. Holmes picked up Angeltvedt’s rebound and put it under the sprawling goaltender’s arm.
Ten minutes later, Holmes golfed at the puck from inside the blueline and it went Top C. It was kind of a knucklepuck which surprised the goaltender. McMann followed. He scored with under two minutes left to give us a cushion before we headed into the intermission.
It was three to one going into the third when Tofield surprised us with a goal a minute into the third.
McMann gave us the space we needed when he netted one three minutes later.
Exactly a period after his hole in one, Holmes set out to find his third. And he got it when he poke-checked the defenseman at Provost’s blueline, he then went in all alone to put it in the bottom corner.
It was the last goal of the game and Stahl was playing great. He stopped some which looked like they were sure goals.
Another eight minutes and it was all over. Provost had won its third Zone game of the season by a score of five to three. Now the scene switches back to Provost for another Zone game this Saturday.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
No Scoring.
Second Period-
Holmes (Rehman, Angeltvedt); Holmes (unassisted); McMann (unassisted).
Third Period-
McMann (Ringrose, Klein); Holmes (unassisted).
A game was played yesterday (Tuesday Feb. 11) against Hughenden/Hardisty but I wrote this article the day before to meet press time Monday night.
Another Zone game is being played in Provost against Tofield this Saturday.
