Another two Pee Wee hockey games to tell you about this week and both of them were worth something.
Our first game of the weekend on Friday was part of zones against Castor, in Castor.
The first game of the series was played in Provost last Sunday. Provost went on to win that game 10-3.
This was a series where the team that scores the most goals in two games wins. So we were going into this game with a seven goal lead.
They came out quickly in the second game with a goal one minute and 44 seconds in. But seven seconds later we rebounded with a goal by Holmes from the edge of the crease. And that was all the scoring in the first.
In the second we came out strong scoring two within a minute of each other a few minutes into the period, one by Klein and the other by Angeltvedt.
Adams had a rocket from the blue line find its way into the short side. Minutes after that Ringrose did some fancy stick work on a two-on-one to find Stempfle who didn’t disappoint us by putting it in. We now had a five to one lead.
McMann left us on a even better note when he scored with 42 seconds remaining in the second period.
Not a goal until the five minute mark of the third when Ganser got a nice pass from Klein, he went all the way to put it top corner.
Castor came back minutes later with a goal, and then minutes after scored again. Adams scored his second of the game sixteen seconds later to get one of those back.
We had brought along goalie Mitchel Gregory as a backup for Stahl. Halfway through the third we let him get in some playing time. He made some great saves allowing only two.
A late goal by Castor was the last of the series. We had won the series 18-8. We are now going to play the winner of Tofield and Sedgewick next in zone competition.
Lots of points from Adams who had two goals and an assist. And Ganser who had a goal and two assists.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Holmes (Angeltvedt)
Second Period-
Klein (Ganser, McMann); Angeltvedt (Ringrose); Adams (Holmes); Stempfle (Ringrose, Adams); McMann (Landmark).
Third Period-
Ganser (Klein); Adams (Ganser).
Final score was 8-5 for the Provost Pee Wees.
We had Saturday off and returned to action Sunday against Paradise Valley in Provost.
It was a little slow at the start of the game, but Holmes blocked a shot, and raced down on a breakaway to put it top corner for the first goal of the game.
McMann followed, scoring one four minutes later when he put it between the goaltender’s legs.
Angeltvedt scored trying to get out of the way of Adams shot. It hit his back and went top corner. Holmes also got his second and third goals late in the first period. In the meantime, P.V. scored their first of the game.
We kept on going in the second when Ganser scored an early goal just over a minute in.
Four more in the second and we had a ten to three lead.
We almost stopped in the third because they managed to score four on us, and we only scored one.
Angeltvedt’s goal was on a three-on-none which started from the top of the circle in their end. It seemed like a long breakaway because he just waited ‘til the goalie went down, and Angeltvedt put it up high.
Big games coming from Holmes, who had four goals and three assists. Angeltvedt who had two goals and one assist. McMann had two goals and one assist while Stempfle had three more assists.
Provost scoring:
First Period-
Holmes (unassisted); McMann (Ganser, Watchal); Angeltvedt (Adams, Holmes); Holmes (Angeltvedt); Holmes (Stempfle).
Second Period-
Ganser (unassisted); Holmes (Stempfle, Rehman); Adams (Rehman, McMann); Watchal (Holmes, Landmark); McMann (Klein, Watchal).
Third Period-
Angeltvedt (Holmes, Stempfle).
Final score was 11-7 for the Provost Pee Wees.
A game which is still to be played is on Tuesday against Chauvin/Edgerton. Even though this paper is dated for the Wednesday, this column was written on Monday to make it to the press on time.
