Another Zone game was played last Saturday in Provost against Tofield for the second of the two game series. We had won the previous game 5-2 in Tofield.
It started out pretty fast paced, but we came up with the first goal of the game just five minutes into the first period when Angeltvedt slid it in the open side from close range.
With one minute remaining in the first Tofield managed to tie it up at one.
In the second period we played horrible, and we had some bad luck to make it even worse.
Things like hitting our own players with the puck when we had a wide open net. We couldn’t get anything going.
Tofield squeezed a couple of goals to get them within one of tying up the series at six.
It’s either us, or them but we set out to win the series to advance to the third and final series of Zones.
We just had to win the period to win the series, and McMann set us off on the right foot when he netted one four minutes into the final frame.
We were now two goals ahead of Tofield in the series.
The butterflies in our stomachs were going as fast as they could. And to make things worse was when Stempfle was kneed on an open ice hit. Stempfle left the game with 15 minutes left in the game. And this was when we needed him most.
Landmark showed them when he blasted one from the blueline to hit a Tofield player’s skates and in, just after the five minute major had expired.
It was the last goal of the game and the series.
Just a few minutes later the series was all over and Provost had won its second zone playoff series of the season to advance to the third round.
The next round will most likely be against Forestburg/Daysland. And that series will decide who will be going to Provincials.
Provost scoring:
First Period:
Angeltvedt (Adams, Ganser).
Second Period:
No Scoring.
Third Period:
McMann (Ringrose); Landmark (unassisted).
Final score—3-3 tie.
Final score for series- 8-5 win for the Provost Pee Wees.
