With Carroll out on a suspension, we called up Travis Klein from the other Provost Bantam team, and did we ever need him. We needed all the players we could get.
Things were looking very good in the first ten minutes of the first period. Benoit scored his first of four on a slapshot just inside the blue line.
Moncrieff then added another on a light snapshot from the blue line, this game looked like no problem. Two to zip for Provost.
We just thought this was the easiest game to come our way, until the last few minutes.
Consort scored three unanswered goals in a minute thirty span to take the lead 3-2 after one period.
“We should be beatin’ these guys 6-0.” Ken Deck said, who’s been helping Stahl on his goaltending for the past year.
And we couldn’t disagree with that, so we set out to to play a more disciplined game, because that’s what cost us those three goals.
Almost a whole period after his first goal, Benoit snuck another by the Consort goalie.
Glencross who has had numerous chances all night finally put one away to put Provost back in front.
Consort then answered back with one of their own just minutes later to tie it up at four.
Just like the first we died for the second half, and got scored against again, luckily only once.
That period was a little better, we tied them at two in that frame. But, we were still behind by one.
Just twenty seconds from the face-off Consort scored to put us down by a count of 6-4.
With the game going back and forth for almost ten minutes, Glencross got a slashing penalty and a misconduct to put his total minutes for the game at 20. Klein had to serve his slashing penalty.
So with two men in the box Paulgaard and Holmes went down on a two on one. Holmes took the pass from Paulgaard and shot from the face-off dot. The shot wasn’t that hard but it had enough steam to get over the goalie’s leg and in, the score was now 6-5.
With eight minutes remaining in the game and all the pressure coming from the Provost side Landmark, off the face-off blasted the puck from the point, Benoit, who had won the draw went to the net and managed to get his stick on it. He got enough of the puck to make it go in the net. Tie game!
Two minutes later Benoit won the face-off in their end, back to Moncrieff, over to Adams and he shot it in the top corner of the net.
Benoit later got an insurance goal on Moncrieff’s rebound.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period-
Benoit (Sorby); Moncrieff (unassisted).
Second Period-
Benoit (Sorby, Stempfle); Glencross (Stempfle, Benoit).
Third Period-
Holmes (Paulgaard, Adams); Benoit (Landmark); Adams (Moncrieff, Benoit); Benoit (Moncrieff).
Again this week, due to the lack of space in the paper I will be brief. Not much to say about this game anyway.
Provost scored four goals in the first while Castor only had one, Provost never looked back.
Stahl played great, letting in one soft one, but he still came out with the win.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period-
Glencross (Stempfle, Benoit); Glencross (Stempfle, Benoit); Benoit (Glencross); Sorby (Glencross).
Second Period-
Adams (Benoit); Benoit (Glencross, Stempfle); Stempfle (Glencross); Glencross (Benoit).
Third Period-
Ganser (Moncrieff); Benoit (Stempfle, Glencross).
Was not at this game but I heard it wasn’t bad. We had the chances, just couldn’t capitalize on them.
This was our first league loss of the season but Carroll, Holmes, Ganser, and Paulgaard were either not there or in pain playing. Four players, that’s a quarter of our team. Oh well, we’ll get them next time.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period- Benoit (Glencross, Adams).
Second Period- Benoit (Glencross).
Third Period- Glencross (Moncrieff).
