No league PeeWee hockey games but one tournament in Paradise Valley to report on, which happened over the last week.
Our first game was on Wednesday scheduled against Lloydminster Imperial 400, but they cancelled so we played against Paradise Valley. We played them earlier in the year and lost eight to seven. But this time it ended up the other way around, we won eight to seven on a last period come back.
In the third we were losing seven to three (all goals were by Dustin McMann) when Landmark's shot trickled down P.V.'s goalie's back and made it across the line to narrow the lead to two goals. Landmark again blasted one off the face won by Stempfle and into the corner of the net with less than three minutes to go in the first game of the tournament. A minute and a half later Klein tied it up with a shot from the hashmarks. We were really putting on pressure and our defencemen did a excellent job to keep the puck in their zone. When it came down to our end we went for what might have been the last rush of the game; with 40 seconds left Stempfle passed to Holmes and he went in by himself with two men on him, wound up and between the legs of the goalie went the puck. The whole bench exploded with joy. We scored with 35 seconds remaining in the game to win it by a count of 8-7. But you have to give most of the credit to Dustin McMann for scoring half of our goals and an assist to keep us in the game. Without him we would have a tough time winning this game. Another highlight was that Cam Stempfle got three assists while Wade Landmark had two goals and one assist.
We had only one more penalty (four) than they did, so we played pretty cool under pressure.
Provost scoring:
First Period-McMann (Landmark at 8:30).
Second Period- McMann (Angeltvedt at 12:39); McMann (unassisted, 3:11).
Third period-McMann (Ganser, 17:35); Landmark (Stempfle, 12:10); Landmark (Stempfle, 2:58); Klein (Ganser, McMann, 1:27); Holmes (Stempfle at 35 seconds).
Our next game on Saturday was not easy against Kitscoty. They scored first, but their lead didn't last long when McMann scored just a minute later. And with two seconds left on the clock Holmes scored another late goal with a close in shot. So we felt a lot better going into the second with a lead instead of a tie.
We scored two in the second and they scored two that period, which kept it a one goal lead for Provost.
In the third we didn't start putting on the pressure until the last three or four minutes of the game. But by that time we had given up four goals in the period. It was with 59 seconds left in the period when Holmes flicked the puck over the goalie on a close in shot which brought us within one goal. We ended up losing the game but the sad part about this was Landmark hit the side of the net from the point and that Holmes hit the post with three seconds remaining in the game.
Stahl, our goalie claimed that some players that were not playing but standing above him on a part of the arena were spitting on him. We were so close to tying it at the end but we shouldn't have let them score so many in the third.
Provost scoring:
First Period-McMann (Angeltvedt, 6:30); Holmes (Adams, Stempfle, :02).
Second Period- Angeltvedt (McMann, Adams, 16:20); McMann (Landmark, Watchal, 14:20).
Third Period-Adams (Holmes, 15:40); Holmes (Landmark, :59).
Our third game was Sunday against who I like to call our rivals, Chauvin. McMann played there last year and we're glad that he came here because he scored a hat trick against his former team.
This was our first meeting this year, and we came out on top with a 6-2 win. It was scoreless after two periods but in the third McMann scored with just over one minute gone. They then tied it eight minutes later, and about a minute after they tied it McMann scored again.
With less than five minutes remaining in the game Ringrose scored on a two-on-one with a pass from Holmes; Ringrose went over the goalie's shoulder and top corner went the puck.
McMann then scored again with a rocket from the top of the circle. The goalie didn't even bother moving.
Holmes scored on a break-away with under two minutes remaining. Then again, another late goal with less than one second left in regulation time with a pass from Watchal. The final score was six to two and all goals coming in the third.
Provost scoring:
First Period-no scoring.
Second Period-no scoring.
Third Period-McMann (unassisted at 18:54); McMann (Klein, 10:55); Ringrose (Holmes, 4:22); McMann (unassisted, 3:19); Holmes (unassisted, 1:49); Holmes (unassisted at :01).
Our next scheduled games are one in Lloydminster on Friday and one here in Provost against Kindersley on Sunday. And by the way, last week I reported that we played against Kitscoty, but it was Kindersley.
