I’m not sure whether the score was 14-5 or 15-5 because the sheet I have in front of me (not the gamesheet) says 14, and I can’t quite remember which of the two either, but I’ll go with 14.
Anyway, during warmup I looked over to the other end and saw just what I saw in Camrose. I didn’t think we’d have any trouble.
If we won this game we had a chance to play in the semifinals on Sunday. If we didn’t make it to Sunday’s match at least depart with a win.
We did outplay Redwater throughout the first, but they still got their chances.
We struck first when Ganser put one in on a pass from Carroll.
But Redwater stormed back with three goals in the last ten minutes of the first.
Glencross got us a little bit closer on a goal with 47 seconds left. After two it was 3-2 for the home team.
The second period was much better played by us as we scored four unanswered goals.
Glencross had the puck at the point when a Redwater player threw his stick at him, therefore Glencross was awarded a penalty shot. He went stick side and scored to tie the game up at three.
The only reason Glencross was on the point was because he had been switched with Carroll. And that had turned out to be perfect for us.
Carroll scored one, two, and then a third on a great deflection on a perfect pass by Landmark to give himself the natural hat trick. At the other end Wetzstein hadn’t had much work. I think the shots after two periods were 45-15 or something like that. But more importantly the score was 6-3.
The third was even better than the second, two out of the three forwards we had called up each scored once, Heck and Bishop being the goal scorers and Angletvedt being the other on that line.
Bishop scored on a slapshot that went top corner from the edge of the face-off circle.
Heck went and stole the puck from the defenseman in front of the net, spun around and slid it in the corner.
Paulgaard scored a pair of his own, each from quick releases in the slot.
Benoit scored a couple of ‘em himself and Glencross did as well to reach the four goal mark.
Now, if there was a fifteenth goal, from what I understand Carroll may have scored it which would’ve been his fourth. But I’m not positive so I’ll just leave it at 14.
Redwater scored two quick goals on breakaways in the last two minutes to put the final unofficial score at 14-5 for Provost.
Provost scoreboard:
First Period- Ganser (Carroll); Glencross (Benoit).
Second Period- Glencross (penalty shot); Carroll (unassisted); Carroll (Landmark, Benoit); Carroll (Landmark, Glencross).
Third Period- Paulgaard (Glencross, Tobin); Benoit (Carroll); Glencross (Benoit, Carroll); Heck (unassisted); Bishop (Paulgaard, Landmark); Benoit (Stempfle, Carroll); Paulgaard (Benoit, Adams); Glencross (Benoit, Carroll).
As we’ve done for the past few years, the players have voted for the three awards. The most dedicated went to Benoit; the most sportsmanlike went to Paulgaard; and Stahl took home the most improved.
