"Bumpy Tracks"

This photograph took third place in the province and was awarded to The Provost News in Edmonton on Saturday night, January 24, 2004 during an Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association symposium. The picture was entered in the “Photo Illustration” category for 2003 sponsored by ATCO Gas and was used to illustrate that those in agriculture and related industries have faced bumpy times over the last few seasons with drought, grasshoppers and other challenges. This photograph shows railway tracks just east of town, altered by computer software to illustrate the uneven ride — and the fading into an unknown, foggy future. The art was created by News editor Rich Holmes and originally appeared as a full page cover in last March’s Salute to Agriculture. ©Provost News Graphic.
