This shows what the new three story condominium units for those 55 years and older may look like in Provost. Construction, that will include underground parking could begin this fall just to the west of Hillcrest Lodge. Want to Subscribe to The Provost News? Click here.
3 Stories, Underground Parking for Seniors Village
Preliminary plans for an expansion at Hillcrest Lodge in Provost including new condo units will include a three story project with underground parking.

The expansion will take place to the west of the existing building and a drawing is printed in this week's paper.

The Provost Senior Citizens Home Foundation chairman Tom Schneider hopes construction can begin this fall with a spring opening of the new units.

The expansion is being triggered by continual waiting lists at Hillcrest Lodge.

Chief administrative officer of the lodge, Bonnie Aker says that 27 people have been on a waiting list this month.

Plans call for the construction of 30 condo units and 30 more Hillcrest Lodge units as well as a senior centre that will all be connected.

The reason to build three stories instead of all on one level is to keep residents close to food and recreation areas; if the units were constructed all on one floor then the units would have to be spread out a long walking distance. At least one elevator—and maybe more will be installed in the new condo and Hillcrest areas.

The management board of the foundation has met three times with architects over the project and there is another meeting scheduled for this Monday, May 31 when plans will again be fine tuned.

Today there are 58 units with 60 people living in Hillcrest Lodge and there are 18 people at nearby Crestwood that is overseen by Hillcrest staff.

When the new condominiums and Hillcrest units are filled, between 150 and 170 people may be living on the property.

There are 27 people on staff at Hillcrest Lodge—14 of them full time so after building an increase in staff would take place.

Schneider and Aker say that it’s crucial that the new “seniors’ village” be linked with the new condo units, the new and existing lodge—and a new seniors’ drop in centre. The drop in centre will be designed to be used by any senior citizens from throughout the town and area.
