Crone Named Honorary Lifetime Member
of Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops

Gillman (Fritz) Crone has been appointed an honorary lifetime membership within the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops.

The board of directors of the Natural Gas Co-op 52 Ltd. nominated the past director and chairman.

The award may go to a nominee who meets all of the following criteria:

• An individual that has displayed extraordinary contributions in the rural gas industry.

• An individual that has left a lasting impact or legacy within the rural natural gas industry.

• An individual that has become an ambassador of the rural gas program.

The selection committee awards this honor to as many as two nominees annually.

Over the years lifetime memberships have been awarded to: Henry Tomlinson, Mike Power, Helmut Entrup, Ernie Walter, Hal Roulston, George Comstock, Alex Onody, Garnet Ovans, Walter Nasse, Steve Shwetz, and Ted Bencharski.
Crone, who lives southeast of Hardisty, is a past director of the Natural Gas Co-op 52 Ltd. and served on the board of directors of the co-op from January 1976 to January 2003. While a director he served as chairman of the board for 17 years intermittently. Part of the nomination information included the following: “He was an active member of the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops, a strong voice for his members and all federation members across the province. Much of the success of the Natural Gas Co-op 52 Ltd. can be attributed to his co-operative spirit, dedication to the cause and strong belief in the rural gas program. The board of directors of the Natural Gas Co-op 52 Ltd. are proud of the legacy he has left in their co-op and the rural gas program and feel it is fitting that he be awarded a lifetime membership.”

Michael Heck, president and CEO of the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd. wrote Crone saying in part “You are in distinguished company, with many of the founders of the organization. Your achievements were exceptional to the rural natural gas industry and we are proud that we can make you one of our members in perpetuity. You have earned the respect of the industry and your peers and we want to make sure we recognize that fact.

We would like to honor you with a short ceremony on Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Delta Edmonton South hotel in the Grande Ballroom . . . Once again, congratulations and thank you for your extraordinary contribution to rural Alberta.”
