Metiskow Post Office Now Famous:
It’s the Smallest in the West
The seven foot wide by 10 foot long post office in Metiskow is the smallest one operating in Western Canada.

The littlest post office on the Prairies was discovered after Canada Post’s Prairie Weekly, produced in Winnipeg, held a contest to find the smallest post office in the division. The division covers Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. It’s unknown if the smallest post office in Eastern Canada has been determined.

Postmaster for Canada Post, Linda Colp says that she looks after 71 boxes but a dozen years ago stopped operating a rural route through the Canada Post office.

Colp, who has been postmaster in the hamlet for the last 24 years told The News that she was “not really surprised” because she had never seen any post office smaller in all her travels.

She works sorting mail 28 hours per week and finds it easy to take a break since her house is attached. The best part of her job, she adds are the people she serves.

There’s no problem that the operation is so small—if there are more than three people in the lobby at one time—the rest simply wait outside.
