Late Spring Snowfall Hits Area

It was a longer weekend for farmers in more than one way as they were forced to sit out seeding operations when a snowfall hit early Friday morning. Photo shows spring wheat already emerging on land planted by Barry and Dave Johnstone a quarter mile north of town. Seeding conditions have since returned to normal. ©Provost News Photo.

American in Cadogan Unhappy With Theft of Flag
A United States citizen living in Cadogan is unhappy with the “rude” theft of her American flag from outside her house in Cadogan.

Julie Bjornson said that when she returned home from the Victoria Day long weekend she discovered that someone had taken the flag down.

“It’s really sad” that this happened.

Two large flags were flying side by side on a flag pole connected to the house: one Canadian and one American.

The 35 year old who was born and raised at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho told The News on Tuesday, May 20 that “I’ve never once heard any American say anything bad about any Canadian. ”

RCMP are still investigating the incident.

Bjornson’s grandmother came from Canada who taught her patriotism. “I have many Canadian relatives.”

The landed immigrant of eight years came to the area after residing in Saskatchewan. She and her husband Tony—a Canadian—have three young boys.

She said that the flags, which had been up for only one week were meant to show support for both the United States and Canada and mainly recognizing the recent war in Iraq.

She has no idea why someone would do this. “I believe everyone has their own opinion, but to come on my property and to take my flag . . . you can voice your opinion but if you steal property, that’s another story.”

Bjornson says that a neighbour witnessed the theft and that with this Monday coming up an American holiday, she wants her flag back. “I’m proud to be an American.”
