A Sunshiner’s Preschool teacher at Hughenden was “practically speechless” when she discovered that she was one of 20 recipients of a province-wide Excellence in Teaching Award.

Jennifer Gallaway teaches Kindergarten to children mainly five years old as well as some younger ones, from Monday to Thursday at the building attached to the Hughenden Public School.

The award is made to recognize teachers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their work and their students.

Gallaway lives in Consort and drives daily to work. She took her Grades 1 through 12 at Provost Public School. The 26 year old winner told The News in an interview that “I was quite overwhelmed to just be nominated.” When the award was announced, it came as “a surprise.”

She thinks she won the provincial award because the Kindergarten setting “has unique dynamics that set me up for success. I have excellent support through the parent board and awesome staff” including teacher assistants.
