Some people have been complaining to the Town of Provost administration about crows in the town limits so the issue was raised at a recent council meeting.

Chief administrative officer of the Town of Provost, Terry Hurlbut told The News that some people have complained that crows are noisy and that they are scaring away other birds. He says there have been a few complaints over the years and believes that some councilors have received calls as well. He said that one woman reported seeing 38 crows in one tree this year.

Council asked administration to check with RCMP to see if the police has concerns—and if not, then special constable Dan Filtz and bylaw
enforcement officer Al Dorman will be authorized to discharge firearms in the corporate limits of Provost to shoot the crows.

Cat Thrown Under Moving Car, Two Charged With Animal Cruelty
RCMP in Provost have charged two local youths with animal cruelty.

Constable Geordie Simpson reported that a witness observed a male get out of a vehicle on April 17 and chase a cat in the town limits. Once the cat was caught the male threw it under the moving vehicle that he had been riding in with another person. The cat escaped injury at that stage but it was caught a second time and was again thrown under the vehicle. This time the cat was hit by the vehicle. Veterinary x-rays later showed that it suffered a broken pelvis.

Fire Blazes Near Hayter On Victoria Day
This is all that’s left of the George Jenkins barn after it was destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon, May 20 as flames spread from near Hayter and continued northwest across Highway 13. Jenkins was one of a group of young Ontario men who homesteaded in the early years of the last century, near what later became the Hamlet of Hayter. These men built large handsome barns with fieldstone foundations and used a hill, if possible,
to make a two level approach. Stock entered the stable on the lower side and hayracks were driven directly into the loft from the upper side to unload feed. The effects of time had been slowly eroding the structure that could be found on the south side of Highway 13 between Hayter and Ferris’ Hill.
