It’s doubtful that airplanes such as the one in the background was responsible for all these black tire marks melted onto the apron at the Provost airport. Rather it’s likely that it was someone who didn’t mind if some of the rubber on the tires from his or her automobile was quickly dissolved during a stunting exercise. Len Kjos, who serves on the Provost and M.D. 52 airport committee (above) was not impressed with what he discovered recently one morning while doing a regular check of the facility south of town. ©Provost News Photo.

Shorncliffe Lake Gets Cash for Water Quality Improvement
New projects approved through the Infrastructure Canada-Alberta Program (ICAP) include one near Czar.

The Municipal District of Provost No. 52 will receive $24,835 for a Shorncliffe Lake filtration and chlorination system.

This project will modify the existing water supply system at Shorncliffe Lake resort to improve drinking water quality for residents and promote more efficient use of the resource.

Measures include the installation of a cartridge filter, a sterilizer, a water meter, a chlorine solution tank with pump, a test kit and six pails of sodium hypochlorite.

The federal and provincial governments provide up to two-thirds of the funding for eligible costs under ICAP. Partnering communities provide the remaining funding. The federal and provincial governments provided $52.6 million of the $84.2 million announced for Alberta communities.

To date, 396 projects worth $307.1 million have been announced in Alberta under the program. Over the life of the program, ICAP will help direct at least $508 million in federal, provincial and municipal funding towards: municipal water and wastewater systems; municipal roads, bridges and transit; affordable housing; solid waste disposal and recycling; tourism, cultural or recreation facilities; or projects to improve energy efficiencies of municipal buildings. ICAP is a partnership between the federal, provincial and municipal governments and in some cases, private-sector organizations.
